Match report
Real Madrid delivered a 4-1 home victory over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu, turning a two-goal half-time advantage into a convincing La Liga result. Arda Güler opened the scoring, Kylian Mbappé added a first-half finish and a penalty after the interval, before Yan Diomande supplied Madrid’s fourth. Manu Bueno struck Sevilla’s consolation goal late on.
The result was built on Madrid’s control of the ball and a clinical return in front of goal. The hosts recorded 65% possession, completed 604 of 666 passes at 91%, and produced 15 shots, including eight on target. Sevilla had 35% of possession, 11 attempts and five efforts on target, ensuring that Thibaut Courtois was called upon for four saves.
First-half separation
The opening half remained level until the 30th minute, when Güler put Real Madrid ahead with a left-footed finish from Yan Diomande’s assist. Seven minutes later, Mbappé doubled the lead, again with his left foot, after Jude Bellingham provided the assist.
Those two goals gave Madrid a 2-0 lead at the break. The hosts had begun in a 4-2-3-1 formation, as had Sevilla, and their advantage was reflected in the eventual passing figures: Madrid attempted 666 passes to Sevilla’s 350.
There was an early flashpoint in the 23rd minute, when Félix Correia and Dean Huijsen were each booked for dissent. A VAR review followed in the 24th minute regarding a possible red card, while another review in the 63rd minute preceded Madrid’s penalty.
Mbappé extends the lead
Madrid resumed with a decisive third goal in the 63rd minute. Mbappé converted the penalty to make it 3-0 and complete his brace. His two goals, coupled with his 8.51 rating, earned him Player of the Match recognition.
Güler and Diomande also made decisive contributions. Güler scored the opener and was rated 8.26, while Diomande assisted the first goal before scoring himself. He matched Güler’s 8.26 rating. Bellingham assisted Mbappé’s first goal, and Aurélien Tchouaméni later set up Diomande’s finish.
The broader attacking numbers underline Madrid’s edge without suggesting a one-sided contest in every area. They registered 114 attacks to Sevilla’s 84 and 44 dangerous attacks to 40. The teams created two big chances each, but Madrid missed none while Sevilla missed two. Madrid also had 13 goal attempts compared with Sevilla’s nine.
Late exchange, clear final margin
Sevilla made all five substitutions, with Manu Bueno and Lucas Stassin introduced in the 56th minute. Their combination produced Sevilla’s goal in the 80th minute: Stassin assisted Bueno’s left-footed finish to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Madrid responded immediately. Diomande struck with his right foot in the 82nd minute, assisted by Tchouaméni, restoring the three-goal margin and settling the final score at 4-1.
Sevilla finished with slightly more corners, two to Madrid’s one, and more total crosses, 15 to eight. But Madrid’s accuracy in possession and stronger finishing proved the defining statistical difference. Both teams received two yellow cards, while Sevilla committed 14 fouls to Madrid’s 10.
For Madrid, the victory combined volume, possession and efficiency: four goals from eight shots on target, with three recorded assists and a successful penalty. Sevilla leave Madrid with a late goal to show for their efforts, but the home side’s first-half lead and second-half response ensured a comprehensive finish.
