Paris Saint-Germain hit six in Villarreal rout
Paris Saint-Germain delivered a commanding 6-0 win over Villarreal at Estadio de la Cerámica, scoring four times in the opening 17 minutes before adding two more after the break.
The result
Paris Saint-Germain produced an emphatic 6-0 away victory over Villarreal in the Champions League league stage, round four. The visitors established an unassailable lead before the match had settled, scoring four times inside the first 17 minutes at Estadio de la Cerámica.
The scoreline reflected PSG’s control across the principal attacking measures. They had 71% possession, completed 677 of 743 passes at a 91% success rate, and recorded 22 shots to Villarreal’s 14. More decisively, 12 of those PSG attempts were on target, compared with two for the hosts.
Four goals in eight minutes
João Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a right-footed finish, assisted by Willian Pacho. PSG then struck twice in quick succession: Désiré Doué made it 2-0 in the 12th minute from a Maghnes Akliouche assist, before Senny Mayulu converted with his left foot a minute later after João Neves created the chance.
Fabián Ruiz completed a blistering opening phase in the 17th minute, finishing left-footed from another Akliouche assist. The 4-0 half-time lead placed PSG firmly in command, while Villarreal were unable to find a response before the interval.
PSG maintain their grip
The visitors added a fifth in the 50th minute as Fabián Ruiz scored again, this time from a Vitinha assist. His two goals earned him the official Player of the Match award and the highest rating in the game, 9.65.
PSG continued to generate the more dangerous output throughout the contest. They registered 114 attacks and 47 dangerous attacks, against Villarreal’s 69 and 29 respectively. They also created four big chances, with Villarreal recorded at zero.
The final goal arrived in the 78th minute. D. Boly, introduced in the 74th minute, scored with his right foot after an assist from João Neves. It completed a six-goal night in which PSG scored four in the first half and two in the second.
Midfield influence and attacking supply
The standout individual contributions were spread across PSG’s attacking unit. Fabián Ruiz led the scoring with two goals, while João Neves combined a goal with two recorded assists. Maghnes Akliouche supplied two assists, and Vitinha added one for Ruiz’s second goal.
PSG’s 18 key passes doubled Villarreal’s total of nine. Their 18 shots from inside the box also underlined the volume of close-range pressure, while Villarreal had five. The visitors further held an 8-4 advantage in corners and won 44 duels to Villarreal’s 31.
Villarreal made five substitutions, as did PSG, but the score remained one-sided. The hosts finished with four yellow cards and committed 19 fouls, while PSG received one yellow card and committed four fouls.
Villarreal’s limited return
Villarreal did have 14 total shots, but seven were off target and only two tested Matvey Safonov, who made two saves. Their passing figure of 237 successful passes from 304 attempts contrasted with PSG’s 677 successful passes from 743.
The result was therefore built on a fast and decisive start, followed by sustained PSG superiority in possession, chance creation and finishing. Villarreal’s evening ended without a goal, while PSG left with a comprehensive six-goal margin.
